Financial Breakdown
The overall income I'd make from revenue earnt from the box office will be hard to calculate as cinema prices vary in both what type of cinema the movie is playing at, and it depends on the majority of tickets purchased (Children tickets, Teen/Adult tickets, family tickets, etc.). However, there are also other ways I would be able to earn ongoing income, these are some of the things I can do;
- Merchandising - clothes, accessories, badges, keychains, etc.
- Live Studio Tours - For the general public or for educational visits
- DVD & Blu-Ray Films - Sold in a variety of shops around the world or purchased online (Amazon, HMV, etc.)
- Online Streaming - Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney +, YouTube Movies, etc.
The only income I'd be able to roughly calculate would be for the tuition fees I will earn from my animation school, and after looking at other animation schools to see what their prices are, I've decided that my prices will start off at £750 per academic term. For a full academic year, a student will have to pay £2250 in total, and a student will go through my animation school for three years just like universities, so after their full 3-year course, a student will have paid £6750. There will be 5 classes maximum to start off, each class having a different animation mentor to guide them through their 3-year journey. Each class will have a capacity of 25 students meaning a full class of students paying for the full 3-year course will earn my business £168,750. If all 5 classes reach their full capacity, this would then mean that my business will have earnt £843,750 in 3 years just from the studios' animation school.
Paying for lessons in university is always pricy, resulting in students getting student loans. Looking at my competitors, their pricing ranges into the thousands and I don't think my business should charge this much starting off. I believe my prices are a good range for a full 3-year university-level course in 3D Animation. This would mean that students don't necessarily need to get a full loan and have to pay too much money to do the full course.
All of the money that is earnt from my animation school will be used to pay for future students' animation software usage, pay the mentors teaching the students, and funding for more equipment to gain more members of staff for the school, to then be able to gain more students and earn more money from tuition fees. The money that is earnt from the productions/box office revenue will be put towards paying the animation and VFX team, all members of staff, purchasing new and better equipment to expand possibilities of what our studio produces. We can expand to doing motion capture, live-action feature films, and many more.
To start up my business, these are some of the essentials I'm going to need:
- Computer - £1,500
- Double Monitors - £400
- RTX 3090 Graphics Card (For better performance) - £1,399
- Adobe Apps (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, etc.) - £720
- Maya 3D - £5,610
- Houdini - £5,360
- Cinema 4D - £661.20
- Nuke Studio - £9,218
All of these together will bring me to a total of £24,668.20. This will just be applied to 1 person and as the business picks up and starts to earn revenue, I will be able to hire staff and purchase more equipment for them to use at the studio
All animation softwares are annual plans, Maya has a 3-year plan so paying for that won’t be as often as others. Houdini and Nuke Studio have a perpetual plan, meaning it’s just the one payment I must put in and I have full access to the software forever. Cinema 4D is an annual plan as well as using Adobe Apps, like Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, etc. So, they’re the most regular outgoings out of the lot.
But all these together will first cost £12,351.20.
After I've paid for Houdini and Nuke studio, I won't have to worry about paying for it again. That’ll bring me down to only needing to pay £6991.20 regularly
