Evaluation of Self Portrait
For my self-portrait, I decided to create a video as I felt it was the best way to show all of my skills; Acting, Editing, and Animating. I wanted to make my video in the style of The Office, I would be interviewed as I talk about myself and when I mention specific details about myself it would then cut away to whatever it is I mentioned, so the viewer can understand what it is I do. For example, I first talked about how I play video games (which now I feel like wasn't necessary for me to say since that's not that interesting) but it then cuts to gameplay footage I recorded which even had subtitles in it. I then talked about my most important/best skill, animating. I talk a little about how long I've been doing it and how I have a YouTube channel with a large audience (Nearly 5000 Subscribers). Whilst I am talking, I show off some recent animations that I have made, including an animation that isn't finished yet (which is actually a commission). I then talk about how I get messages from fans/subscribers, and as I am talking, it cuts away to someone (my brother) messaging me and saying "You suck". This moment just showed that I have a rather silly sense of humor. The same thing goes on pretty much for about another minute, with me talking about things I do and then a cutaway segment happens. During this, I realised that I forgot to mention my skills in photoshop and show off some of the artwork I do, however during my interview scenes, my computer backgrounds show different YouTube thumbnails that I make (I didn't have a proper background for myself at the time). But it would've been better if I actually talked about it a little more instead of just letting everyone guess that I made what was on my computer screens. But then it changes up and the animated segment begins, which involved my character/persona that I am known on YouTube as 'F.B Films'. The mood of this segment completely changes as all the live-action footage was light-hearted, comedic, and enthusiastic, however, the animated part becomes a lot more serious and dark. It sort of sets up my own cinematic universe as my character (which I did the voice acting for as well) talks about how he is here to "fix" the world and also reveals what he looks like as it is the first time anyone has seen my character in an animation of mine. This segment did clearly show my skills in animation and showed a newer skill in voice acting, which I would like to perhaps get into a little bit more. Overall, I am pretty happy with how my self-portrait project came out and I think it done a good job at showing my class who I am, what my interests are and what I do.
